A report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has ranked the counties with the highest crime rate in the country in the last five years.
Nairobi tops the list with over 6,732 cases reported in 2014, 4,382 in 2015, 4,915 in 2016, 7,434 in 2017 and 7,128 in 2018.
The Capital was followed closely by its neighboring county Kiambu wherein 2014, 4,449 cases were reported, a number that rose to 4,768 in 2015, 2017 saw 5,603 crimes reported in the county.
In 2018, 6,932 crimes were reported in Kiambu county.
Nakuru was listed to be the county with the third highest crimes reported in the country.
Among the crimes that were most reported in the three counties in 2017 and 2018 were homicide, car thefts, drug trafficking, and money laundering.
Illegal firearms and land fraud also posted the three counties to the top of the crime list.
In a similar report, Kiambu topped the lot when it came to women involved in crimes that were reported.
In this category, Nairobi was second and Meru County came in a close third.
The Economic Survey 2019 put the number of crimes reported to the police, committed by women, at 15,037 in 2018 which was an increase from 13,857 in 2017.
