A section of Thika Superhighway was on Thursday impassable after angry residents lit up some fires on it.
According to witnesses, the huge snarl up was experienced since morning after a car burst into flames on the highway before the protesters took over a while later.
Police were forced to intervene and engage with the small traders from Roysambu-Kasarani area who had camped on the highway.
Confirming the incident, Kasarani OCS Peter Kimani told Kenyans.co.ke that the traders were protesting a move by Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to demolish their Kiosks that had encroached the road reserves.
He, however, revealed that the demonstrators were repulsed.
"KeNHA demolished some kiosks in the road reserve n the owners blocked the road in protest...but they were repulsed," stated Kimani.
In the video, the protesters are seen throwing stones into both sides of the highway and totally paralyzing transport.
In early May, the National Paralympic team also blocked part of the Thika superhighway causing a major snarl-up.
The team which was spread across the busy highway was protesting delayed allowances after representing the country in Morocco for qualifiers to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on phone at the time Agnes Oluoch, who is the president of the team's federation, revealed that despite exemplary performance in Morocco, the team was yet to receive its allowances.
