Fraudsters Set Up Fake Paybill Number for Sick Governor

Con men have already started to siphon funds from the unsuspecting public by using the name of Bomet Governor Dr Joyce Laboso who is admitted in a London hospital.

Communication from the governor's office disowned the scheme and announced that the matter had been reported to the police for investigations.

Attention is drawn to fraud messages and texts being sent to unsuspecting members of the public urging them to make contributions for Her Excellency the Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso in return for a reward, through Pay Bill No:100400(HFC) ACC no.9133793201 and MPESA number 0726830886 registered under the name of Geoffrey Kipkoech,” read the statement.

They (the messages) are ill-intentioned and are not sanctioned by the governor, her office, or her associates,” reported Ezra Kirui, who is the Director of Communications at the Bomet County Government.

He warned the public not to fall prey to such messages adding that the case had already been reported to the DCI.

However, the governor is highly grateful to the members of the public for their prayers as she continues with her medical treatment,” confirmed Kirui.

Daily Nation reported that the fraudsters were sending the message to people that were known to be close to the governor.

Kirui also told Kenyans.co.ke on phone that by Thursday evening, no arrest had been made yet but the police were pursuing the matter with urgency to secure the public from losing their money to the fraudsters.

Laboso is currently admitted at Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust hospital in London, UK. She flew to London on May 29, 2019.

Before leaving for the UK, the governor had been missing from office and public limelight for over three weeks.
