Mutua Makes Move to Upset Ruto's Presidential Ambitions

Machakos Governor has dropped hints at a possible political coalition with influential leaders which could dent Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 succession bid.

He spoke at Tindereti Primary School in Borabu Constituency, Nyamira county, where he was raising funds for the institution and declared that he was ready to form an alliance with all communities to give the country the next Head of State.

Top notch Gusii leaders encouraged his sentiments with Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama, who was representing Interior Cabinet Secretary(CS) Dr. Fred Matiang'i, endorsing Mutua to work with the CS in his future political plans.

“Dr Matiang’i is doing a good job. When he was ICT CS he ensured transition from analogue to digital (broadcasting), as education CS you saw what he did and now as Interior CS. Go sit and discuss with Matiang’i,” Arama told Dr Mutua.

Nyamira Governor, John Nyagarama, joined Mutua in criticizing the current winner-takes-all system, noting it locked out smaller communities from the country’s top leadership.

“Let us join hands and chart the way forward. For how long can we support others when other people can rule? ” posed Nyagarama.

Mr. Arama gave his sentiments on Dr Ruto's acts of seeking the backing of the Gusii claiming he had not played any role in promoting the community’s interests.

“He should be clear on what he wants from us, since we have never benefited from his position as DP,” he stated.

Kisii Senator, Prof Sam Ongeri also graced the occasion and talked on the current war against corruption and the peace initiatives stating that they should be the yardsticks to identify future leaders.

“For now we are supporting war on corruption and if you are not with us in this, then you are the wrong person,” Ongeri remarked.

He further criticised leaders opposed to the Building Bridges Initiative that is being steered by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Governor Mutua has on many occasions made known his interest on the country's top seat. He opined that he was ready to bring together all communities thought to be minorities and ensure that they too have a say in the national politics.

He also mentioned Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, CS Matiang'i and himself as visionary leaders who could be future presidents of the nation.
