Uhuru Narrates How Nyong’o's Sister Helped Deliver His Firstborn Son

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday narrated how Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o’s sister helped deliver his firstborn son, Jomo.

The president, who had gone to condole with Nyong’o's family during the burial of his mother Dorka Owino Nyong'o in Rata, Kisumu county, shared the light moment at the conclusion of his speech.

While speaking, the President admitted to not knowing the deceased personally but recalled how one of her daughters, who is a nurse, had helped his wife, Margaret Kenyatta to deliver their firstborn.

“I would like to finish by saying that i did not know her well, I heard that she wanted to be a nurse. At least i can testify she would have been a good nurse and the reason she would have been a good nurse is because the daughter, the first daughter who spoke here who took on the task of being a nurse instead of mum, she is the one who delivered my first son Jomo,” acknowledged the President.

“Therefore, that is confirmation that she would also have made a good nurse. Mama continue taking care of us, the son is grown and he even has a wife and a child as well,” he affirmed.

Uhuru's revelation cracked up the sorrowful mourners brightening the somber mood for a short while before he left the podium.

Dorcas, who died on May 28 aged 98, was laid to rest at her matrimonial home in Sewe, Kisumu county.

Her granddaughter, Lupita Nyong’o, a famous actress and Oscar award winner in the United States, is also reported to have jetted in to pay her last respects to the fallen heroine.

In attendance were opposition leader Raila Odinga, who ceremoniously welcomed the president at Kisumu Internation airport, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i among others.

Residents at the airport's neighbourhood could also not hide their excitement to receive the president as they craned their necks to get a better view.
