How Saitoti Was Badly Embarrassed by Moi Because of Uhuru

Former President Daniel Moi once shouted at Professor George Saitoti in public because of Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to Nation, Saitoti was not aware that Moi was secretly grooming Uhuru to take over from him.

All along, he thought he would be KANU's vice-president and in turn Kenya's next president.

However, on March 18, 2002, during the merger of NDP and KANU, he was treated to the shock of his life.

According to the publication, some politicians whom he had associated with in the past were plotting to bring him down.

When Saitoti got to Kasarani Gymnasium Stadium, where the merger ceremony was to be held, he was stunned when he discovered that his name was missing on the list.

He then walked over to ask him about the matter.

An angry Moi reportedly shouted at him saying "Kimya (shut up) Professor your name is not on the list. It's not there!"

Feeling humiliated, Saitoti went back to his seat.

Moments later, he picked up the microphone and stated, " I know there are many of you who wanted me to contest, is that not so?

"There comes a time when a nation is more important than an individual, one day I will be proved right."
