CS Tourism Najib Balala has left many with lots to ponder upon after his recent awakening in matters elective posts come 2022.
Speaking to the Sunday Nation over his future political plans, he was keen to reveal his intentions for Mombasa's governorship seat in the next general polls.
He however downplayed the move and stated that he was still considering whether to go for a higher elective position in the near future.
“I will have a clear focus on politics in 2021, that is when I will know if I will still go for governor or even a bigger seat. I have experience in elective politics and in government,” Balala opined.
He curtailed his ambitions by putting projects yet to be accomplished in his ministry at the forefront when asked to be clear on his actual meaning of a "bigger seat"
“I want to have the tourism numbers go up to three million before I leave office, then I will be proud and have the energy and impetus to take on another assignment given by the voters.”the CS stated.
The CS has been in the government in charge of the Ministry of Tourism as far back as 2007 and has majored in the sector though had a little stint in the ministry of mining and later returned to the tourism docket by President Uhuru.
East African Assembly legislator Mpuru Aburi mentioned Balala as a Cabinet Secretary actively involved in politics in a past burial event in Meru.
“CSs like Kiunjuri, Balala and Wamalwa are actively involved in politics. Come back and rescue our people,” Aburi pleaded to the executive members.
Other Cabinet Secretaries who have made their political ambitions known come 2022 include Trade and Industrialisation, CS Peter Munya who wants to be Meru's governor and Agriculture CS,Mwangu Kiunjuri who wants to be a presidential running mate in the next elections.
