2 Tough Conditions Set for Raila to Secure Jubilee Presidential Endorsement

ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga has been given two conditions to fulfill in order for President Uhuru Kenyatta's party to endorse him as its presidential candidate for 2022 General Election.

During a funds drive at Mukurweini, Nyeri County on Saturday, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who had accompanied Deputy President William Ruto, issued the two requirements.

Gachagua told the former premier that if he wants to be supported by the ruling party, he should quit the opposition party first and submit himself  to a contest with other interested parties.

"First quit NASA and join Jubilee. Second, delegates will convene at Kasarani and you'll be paraded alongside Ruto and others then the winner will be Jubilee's candidate," the MP explained.

During the funeral of Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o's mother on Friday, Uhuru was asked by Odinga's supporters to endorse him for the top seat.

“I want you, Mr President, to think about the legacy you wish to leave behind with regard to who takes over as your successor. You must ensure that he carries on with efforts against corruption instead of reversing them.

"Pray with me so that you do not leave us, someone, who is a thief,"  Mbadi requested.

On the other hand, Siaya Senator James Orengo asked Uhuru to tame his party members, some of whom seemed to be on a campaign trail for 2022.

“You, our commanders (Uhuru and Raila), have told us to put our arms down. The National Super Alliance brigade has done that. Please ask your troops to also keep quiet so that we can build one Kenya. Otherwise, the journey will be difficult," he pointed out.

DP Ruto responded to the remarks during his tour of Nyeri County over the weekend.

Ruto scoffed at the opposition citing that “Those pushing the President for endorsements should know that Jubilee Party has its plan and history. We know where we come from and where we are heading to,” Ruto spoke.

He also denied claims made by a political faction, known as Kieleweke which is opposed to his 2022 candidature, that his relationship with the President was frosty and rocky.

“My friendship with President Kenyatta started long before he became President. I supported his ambition since 2002. Some con men seeking to fill their stomachs cannot come forward to start lecturing me on how to support the President,” Ruto hit back.
