Govt Baffled Over Man's Ksh286M Wealth Despite a Ksh120K Salary

The government, through the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), has traded its guns towards a county employee who reportedly amassed a massive Ksh286 million wealth on a meagre Ksh 120,000 salary.

Andrew Biketi Musuya, a principal accountant in Trans Nzoia county, reportedly accumulated the wealth in a period of just six years.

According to a report by The Star, the sleuths are also investigating how a proxy of the government official secured Ksh177 million worth of contracts.

Broken down, Biketi owns unexplained prime buildings in Mtwapa, Mombasa and Kwale.

He also reportedly possesses a fleet of some high-end vehicles including a Toyota Prado, a Toyota Harrier and a Toyota saloon whose combined wealth stands at Ksh9.6 million.

His land, which is valued at Ksh226.8 million, was all acquired between the years of 2013 and 2018.

The detectives, however, established that based on his salary alone, Biketi should only possess wealth amounting to around Ksh5.6 million tops.

What rose the EACC eyebrows the most was his denial of ownership of the Toyota Prado that was purchased in 2015 by his proxy identified as Mildred Kerubo Obare.

Biketi denies ownership of the vehicle yet records show that the car, which was registered in Kerubo's name, was bought by the accountant and was also under his ownership.

Kerubo, who works as a clothes vendor, told the sleuths that Biketi asked for her particulars in order to acquire the vehicle and that she had nothing to do with it.

“I wish to state that I have never paid any amount to acquire that vehicle and that I have never owned or seen the said vehicle but I have just heard it from Mr Andrew,” she clarified.

His bank accounts with Ksh15 million were reportedly frozen but the order is set to expire on June 24.
