A recent research carried out by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA) has listed the TV and Radio Stations which captured the lion's share of the coveted audience in the last 7 days.
The African based research company collected the data across a 2.09 million database spread out across various areas in Nairobi and went on to rank the stations.
NRG radio was ranked as the station with the highest reach in Nairobi in the past week, having captured 10.1% of the market closely followed by Kiss FM with 9.5%, with Classic FM closing out the top 3 with an 8.9% reach.
Notably, the relatively new radio station also registered the largest ranking in terms of the market share which stood at 8%.
Ingo FM, Mulembe FM and Radio Jambo ended up with the least reach in Kenya's capital, with 2.3%, 2.2% and 2.2% respectively.
Radio Maisha came in at number 4 while Homeboyz and Citizen Radio came in 8th and 9th respectively.
In terms of TV viewership, data collected and shared by TIFA show that Citizen TV had the highest reach with a 17% share of the market, with KTN home and NTV coming in second and third with 12% and 10% respectively.
Interestingly, the fourth-placed TV station Inooro TV was tied in terms of its reach with the third-placed NTV.
Citizen TV was also first in terms of share with an enviable 25 per cent chunk of the Nairobi market.
KTN Burudani, Kiss TV and Switch TV formed the bottom 3 in terms of reach within Nairobi, with all of them garnering 2% each.
TIFA provided the data representing a total of 19 TV stations and 29 radio stations currently broadcasting across the Kenyan capital.
The term 'reach' can be defined as the proportion of the population in the study that tuned in to a particular station during the period in which the study was carried out.
Share, on the other hand, refers to the percentage of the total viewing or listening audience over a given period of time.
However, the ranking has raised more questions than answers with a section of people of the view that it could be flawed.
Despite the report claiming the data was obtained in the last 7 days before its release, some of the radio stations included closed down a few months ago like One and 2 FM.
