Waiguru's Brainchild Saves Kenya Ksh74 Billion

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday praised the Huduma Centres project that was implemented by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru when she was the Devolution CS.

Speaking at the 7th Africa Public Service Day held at KICC, he disclosed that the project, for which Waiguru has received international recognition, has served 24 million Kenyans and saved the country Ksh74 billion.

“These centres offer over 104 different services with a customer satisfaction level of 95 per cent,” he noted.

He reminded public servants in attendance of the need to prioritise service delivery to citizens.

“This monumental task calls for unyielding commitment; clear and coherent vision; bold transformative leadership; and, above all else, promotion of integrity and a 'working hard' culture,” President Kenyatta cited.

He underscored that it was not enough to copy what other regions were doing but also customize the solutions to suit local needs.

“Ours must not be to copy-paste solutions adopted in other jurisdictions; instead, we must create answers tailor-made to answer the questions that Africa faces today and will face in the future,” he told the participants.

Some of the high-level delegates who attended the conference were Ministers and representatives from 35 African Union member states.

President Kenyatta also called for transparency and accountability in the management of public resources.

“It is for this reason that my administration has laid emphasis on the issue of good governance within the public service, as well as heightening our efforts to combat corruption,” he affirmed.
