Sonko's Strategy to Extend Uhuru's Term

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has gone on record stating that President Uhuru Kenyatta is too young to retire in 2022 when his second term ends.

The governor has joined politicians to form a new lobby group called Team Wanjiku that seeks to empower and improve the lives of ordinary Kenyans.

Speaking on Sunday at Ruiru Stadium, he further gave details on how he will work to chart a way that will see the president serve another term.

The term "Wanjiku" is a Kikuyu word that was popularised by retired President Daniel Moi in reference to Kenyans.

Sonko affirmed that he will initiate countrywide tours to drum up support for a referendum that will allow Uhuru to continue heading the State.

“We will sit with the president and if he supports Wanjiku and offers leadership that will raise the living standards of Wanjiku, we will mobilize the common mwananchi (citizens) across the country so that we go for a referendum to add the president another term,” the governor declared.

Sonko, however, declared a condition before rolling out his plans. He said the push for the referendum will come only if the president offers good leadership in his remaining three years

The bold Nairobi County boss went on to criticize the "Kieleweke" and "Tanga tanga" factions for derailing the Big 4 Agenda by starting campaigns too early for the next general polls in 2022.

“Those always thinking about 2022 politics should stop the claptrap and respect the President. We are fully behind Uhuru because he’s very alive and determined to work and improve the lives of Wanjiku,” Sonko spoke.

“We’ve said enough is enough. The habit of using Wanjiku like tissue paper only during campaigns must come to an end. We will move to all parts of this country to sensitize Wanjiku that our time has come too. And our voice is that of our president. We won’t let Wanjiku suffer and be oppressed under our watch." he vowed.
