The government, through the National Employment Authority (NEA), has ordered all employers in the country to submit a list of all their employees by July 8, 2019.
Failure to comply with the directive, the employers risk paying a fine of Ksh 100,000 or face a jail term of up to 6 months.
The move is intended to expose the employment opportunities and help place potential job seekers.
In a notice on Wednesday's newspapers and on its Twitter handle, NEA also ordered the employers to submit a notification of vacancies, notification of filing or abolition of posts and notification of termination of employment.
The employment agency also informed employers of their mandate to keep a register of all their employees including their name, age, sex, occupation, date of employment, nationality and level of education.
The information of each year ending December 31 is supposed to be sent to the director of the government agency not later than January 31 of the following year.
“A grace period has been granted for the submission of returns under section 79 of the year ending December 2018 by July 8, 2019,” read part of the notice.
The employers will be required to visit the authority’s website and fill a template that has been provided.
The other option will be for the employer to register under the NEA Integrated Management System.
The authority falls under the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection led by Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yattani
