Police on Wednesday opened fire outside Kirinyaga Governor's office Anne Waiguru during a demonstration staged by the striking health workers in Kutus town.
At least ten doctors sustained head, hand and leg injuries and were rushed to the nearest private hospitals for treatment.
Chaos is reported to have erupted when the riot police intercepted the health workers as they marched to the county headquarters to dialogue with the governor.
The police lobbed teargas canisters to the demonstrators after they declared the demonstration illegal thus trying to disperse the medics who could hear none of the threats, the Nation reported.
Central Region Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) secretary Gor Goody was among the injured during the incident.
"Several workers including myself were injured when they were attacked by the officers and we must sue the attackers," threatened Goody.
Some of the doctors claimed they were clobbered and kicked by officers who forcibly dispersed them.
The workers were conducting a peaceful demonstration which is allowed by the constitution but the officers attacked them.
According to Goody, the harassment they endured was not going to prevent them from fighting for their rights.
This comes after the governor, made good her threat to fire all striking medics in her county by replacing them with new employees.
Following her recent threats to take action on the employees, the county advertised the striking workers' positions and the recruitment process has been ongoing.
The health workers went on strike in May citing unhygienic and unfavorable working conditions but Waiguru claimed that the medics were behind the unsanitary environment.
