Nairobi governor Mike Sonko handed out sacks of goodies to residents of Mavoko Constituency in Machakos county on Sunday evening after a successful "Team Wanjiku" campaign in the area.
During the rally, the governor categorically stated that the "Team Wanjiku" outfit was not a political tool but rather a movement focused on the welfare of the nation's citizens.
" The elections are far away, we cannot start campaigning early. We are here to look after our struggling citizens, this is not a political group." Sonko remarked.
The rally was attended by thousands of the area's residents who flocked the open area while shouting praises to the Nairobi county boss.
Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria was also present at the campaign and stated that the plight of Kenyans was the main reason behind the creation of the "Team Wanjiku" outfit.
The legislator went on to dig holes into the credibility of politicians who are doing rounds in the nation seeking 2022 General Election votes.
"Do not be fooled by the politicians roaming around talking about 2022 politics. Will you people eat politics. Will you pay rent using politics. Will you pay your children's school fees with politics?" he asked the enchanted audience.
Mavoko MP, Peter Makau also told his electorates not to allow politicians to divert their minds from the real issues of life.
He further went on to commend governor Sonko for forming "Team Wanjiku" that was concerned with the people's welfare.
"We thank our chief guest (Mike Sonko) for coming to visit us today. He is very welcome to our home and let us work with such transformative leaders." Mr Makau implored.
Governor Sonko finished the rally and asked the residents not to leave because he had carried some packages for them.
This comes three days after Sonko stormed Machakos town to tell off Machakos governor, Dr Alfred Mutua who accused Sonko of neglecting the national heroes' statues in Nairobi.
Sonko also gifted the town's residents some money and food donations in the event.
