Armed Gunmen Storm Ambassador's House

Foreign Affairs Director, attached to the Europe and Commonwealth Directorate, Ambassador Jean Wambui, escaped unhurt after armed robbers raided her house in Kilimani, Nairobi, slightly past Sunday midnight.

The trio forced itself into Jean's house armed with a gun and knives and found the victim in the kitchen, where they gagged and tied her hands, threatening to kill her if she screamed for help.

They made away with her vehicle; a white Toyota Prado VX model of registration plate number KCR 009H, valued at Ksh8 million.

In addition to the luxurious vehicle, they also made away with her 52-inch TV valued at Ksh40, 000, her Canon printer bought at Ksh30,000, jewelry valued at Ksh300,000, her three mobile phones (iPhone, Tecno, and Samsung) valued at Ksh60,000 and KCB ATM card.

A phone valued at Ksh3,500 belonging to Jean’s gardener, Patrick Mwenda was also stolen during the sinister operation.

The disgruntled ambassador reported the burglary at Kilimani Police Station and a search began to trace the thieves.

This led to the arrest of one of the suspects, Calvin Amata, who was found driving the stolen vehicle in Umoja, Nairobi, on Monday night.

While acting on intelligence, the special crimes prevention unit officers intercepted and nabbed a male suspect who was driving the Commonwealth Director's vehicle as he attempted to escape after being flagged down.

Several business cards and documents belonging to Jean were also found in Amata’s wallet.

The suspect is being detained at Buruburu police post as investigations into the alleged robbery continue.
