Oscar-Nominated Filmmaker to Shoot in Kenya

The glitz and glamour that goes hand in hand with Hollywood movies is set to make its way to Kenya.

Celebrated film director, Raj Kumar, while on holiday at the Kenyan coastal town of Mombasa, announced that he was finalizing plans to shoot his next movie in the East African nation.

“You have such a wonderful location. Mombasa is a port city and has a very rich history that is intertwined culturally with that of India. Despite its stature as a melting pot of different cultures and a popular tourist resort, it is still not well known to the larger outside world,” the Oscar-nominated director remarked.

Kumar also disclosed the specific locations within the country where he'd be shooting alongside his wife, Sonam Raney, who doubles up as his creative director as well.

“I made an exciting trip to the world famous Masai Mara National Park and there I met and made a deal with local film enthusiasts. We shall be shooting part of the movie there,” he affirmed while speaking to the Standard.

He added that Kilua Resort, Mombasa, would be the other location, as well as Mombasa Harbour, Fort Jesus Museums, Haller Park and the famous giant sized aluminum elephant tusks located along Moi Avenue, Mombasa.

“I am particularly impressed by the Kilua Hotel location and its entire architectural design that comes with spacious living quarters that are ideal for filming,” he divulged.

A household name in Bollywood, Kumar has received numerous accolades for his films, especially after two of his films were nominated for the best foreign language film category at the Oscars.

He was full of praise for the coastal location, citing that the culturally rich city needs to be broadcasted on the world stage.
