Moses Kuria Donates Entire Ksh16M 'Night' Allowance to Hospital

Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP), Moses Kuria, on Tuesday, announced that he will not pocket a single cent of the proposed night allowance.

In a statement to the Clerk of the National Assembly, the vocal MP directed that any remittance made in that regard, be directed to Gatundu District Hospital for the remainder of his tenure.

"I find this allowance not justifiable at all costs. I reside in my house in Nairobi and I cannot justify to my family why the taxpayer has to pay me to be away from them," an excerpt of his letter disclosed.

The domestic subsistence allowance (night out allowance), had earlier sparked national outrage, with legislators reportedly seeking to pocket Ksh 24,000 each, per night.

Kuria had, on Monday, highlighted the high levels of poverty across the country, urging his fellow leaders to stop bickering, but instead focus on offering sustainable solutions to the various problems facing the common citizen.

“Every day in the news it’s all about Ruto and Raila as Kenyans continue to suffer. It’s time we forgot about the two,” he remarked during Team Wanjiku's tour of Gilgil.

He went on to urge Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader, Raila Odinga, to quit the constant personal attacks and focus on development projects.

“We have years to go before the next general election but Kenyans are waking daily to politics from their leaders instead of development,” Kuria remarked.

The fresh move by legislators to boost their perks did not go down well with Kenyans, leading to the #burekabisa (totally useless), which various netizens used to vent their frustrations.

"Our bure kabisa MPs are out to eat, and eat abundantly. When will the voter ever realise that it's them that employs the non-performing MPs, year in year out.? Until we stop voting in 'Mtu Wetu' come next elections, we still will trend this Bure Kabisa thing," Moon Jahroo tweeted.
