A bhang peddling couple narrowly escaped lynching, following a raid on their house by an irate mob on Tuesday.
“We do not want them back in our village, we are going to kill them if they ever set foot here again,” the angry residents retorted.
Mukuha Kamau (who is blind) and his wife, Susan Wanjiru, reportedly operated an elaborate bhang peddling enterprise from their home in Mutonyora village, Kinangop Constituency, Nyandarua County.
The locals ransacked the entire rental apartment and confiscated an estimated 700gms of bhang, hidden in various inconspicuous spots within the apartment.
Speaking to the Nation, residents aired their disgust at the couple, that was allegedly selling marijuana to underage children.
The two were also accused of using the same children as drug mules.
“My son informed me that they sent him to deliver some rolls to a customer in the market. The drugs are contributing to crime in the area,” a resident, Sofia Wanjiru, narrated.
This is what prompted them to forcefully interrogate the couple, regarding where they get their supply from, before frogmarching them to Magumu Police Station.
In her confession, Kamau's wife divulged that her schedule involved receiving consignments of the outlawed product every other Tuesday, from a woman only identified as Njoki.
However, Kamau on his part maintained that he was the sole proprietor of the illegal business, insisting that his wife played no role in it.
“My wife does not buy from the suppliers or sell to retailers. It is my business, not hers. I have mastered the trade and I am rarely conned, but I have had a problem since the introduction of the new currency notes,” Kamau confessed.
The Kinangop Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC), Charles Rotich, verified the incident, going on to declare that the couple would be arraigned as soon as his officers were done with their investigations.
