Sonko & 10 Other Governors Kenyans Are Most Interested in

Survey results released on Wednesday ranked the top 11 governors in terms of news coverage between October 2018 and June 2019.

The survey, carried out by Trends and Insights For Africa (TIFA), an African-based full market research company, also provided data relating to the various themes that Kenyans linked to the respective governors.

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, topped the standings in terms of coverage, which was pegged at 28 per cent, with his general themes identified as county politics and county administration.

His Kiambu counterpart, Ferdinand Waititu, was ranked second at 14 per cent, with the topic of corruption ranking highest under his thematic graph analysis.

TIFA maintained that the data presented in the charts showed a summary of the coverage of each governor by themes, adding that it did not display tonality (whether the story was positive or negative for the various personalities).

Migori Governor, Okoth Obado, was ranked third at 11 per cent, with crime and corruption as the main themes under his coverage, while his Mombasa counterpart, Hassan Joho, was fourth with 11 per cent coverage with his main theme being national politics.

Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga Governor), closed out the top 5 list with a coverage of 8 per cent, with county administration, national politics and health identified as her main themes.

Other notable mentions included Kakamega Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya, and his Machakos colleague, Alfred Mutua, who were both tied at 7% in terms of news coverage.

Governors Moses Kasaine (Samburu), Kiraitu Murungi (Meru), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), closed out the bottom four positions respectively.
