Relatives of Woman Who Killed Her Husband & Children Speak Out

The relatives of Joyce Wanjiru, who hacked her husband, David Gitau, to death and strangled her two children before committing suicide, on Wednesday, came out to speak on the bizarre incident.

Reports by Capital FM News established that Wanjiru had planned to leave her home over yet to be identified issues, ahead of the shocking incident on Tuesday.

Her clothes and a few other household items were still packed in the house when journalists went to her abandoned home to conduct a follow up on the story.

Wanjiru's sister-in-law, Mary Mwihaki revealed that “Wanjiru was a friendly lady but was easily irritated. She had temper issues."

“She must have been possessed by demons for her to do that. How do you even kill your own children?” she pondered.

Mwihaki further disclosed that Wanjiru’s husband, was the second born in a family of six, and although a gardener, he was supportive of his family.

“We have lost a brother and also a helper of our parents who are not financially stable,” she stated with a faint voice, still recovering from a prolonged period of mourning.

Wanjiru's father, Joseph Maina who has since been left shaken from the ordeal could not come to terms with his late daughter's actions.

He further admitted that the young couple had struggled with financial constraints for long, but that did not warrant the killings.

“This has really hurt me. I did not expect this will ever happen to me,” Maina lamented.

Geoffrey Mugo, the Nyumba Kumi Chairperson in the area, said the couple had no known history of fighting.

“We can only give them a decent sendoff. We have no one to blame for this,” he said appealing for area legislator Waihenya Ndirangu and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to assist the family.

The deceased family has been disoriented since the occurrence, appealed for money from the public to help foot the funeral bills of the four.
