Royal Media CEO Wachira Waruru, on Wednesday evening, lost a bet to Citizen TV news anchor Jeff Koinange.
At the end of the primetime news bulletin, Jeff announced that Wachira had placed a bet on South Africa's Bafana Bafana beating Nigeria's Super Eagles, in their Africa Cup of Nations match.
Jeff challenged his boss' prediction opting to throw his weight behind Nigeria, a country he lived in for many years.
"Royal Media Services MD, Wachira Waruru, has put some money down saying that Bafana Bafana will beat the Super Eagles. Coach, I hope you put your money where your mouth is because I'm going with the Super Eagles," challenged Jeff.
"Linus Kaikai, Francis Gachuri, all of them are supporting Bafana Bafana. Tomorrow I'm buying lunch because you know the Super Eagles are gonna win," the JKL host taunted.
True to his forecast, Nigeria trampled South Africa 2-1 to qualify for the semi-finals.
While it was not clear how much money was at stake, Jeff clearly had a better prediction and all eyes will be on him to fulfill his lunch promise. He had vowed to buy lunch with the money he would win from them.
The Nigerians hit the front when Samuel Chukwueze, bundled past the helpless South African goalkeeper after Alex Iwobi’s cut-back, was deflected into his path just before the half-hour mark.
Bongani Zungu later pulled one back for the South Africans in the 70th minute, leveling up the score sheet.
William Troost-Ekong scored the winner for Nigeria during the dying minutes of the game.
