Al Shabaab Attack Backfires as 3 Are Killed in Lamu

Three terror suspects were killed by a member of the Kenya Border Security Patrol (BSP) in Kiunga, Lamu, on Monday.

Reports by Citizen Radio disclosed that the security officer had engaged the suspected Al Shabaab gunmen following a botched Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack.

The hand-crafted explosives that were allegedly targeting members of the BSU patrol unit, missed their mark after going off close to the border area.

Further reports disclosed that the crude explosives were meant to be backed up by an ambush, once they went off.

A quick counter-offensive by the targeted BSP officers caught the suspects off-guard, thereby thwarting their elaborate plans, leading to the death of 3 of the terror suspects.

Two Kenyan security officers allegedly sustained serious injuries, and were duly rushed to a nearby hospital, local police divulged.

The notorious Somali terror group, Al Shabaab, is known to harbour several cells that continuously attempt to breach the Kenyan border area.

Security reports disclosed that the outlawed militia group mostly targets security personnel with IEDs, before rushing in for the kill, via a well-orchestrated ambush attack.

The latest incident came barely two days since the Kenya Police revealed that they arrested an Al Shabaab member, in relation to an IED that hit a police land cruiser on June 15, 2019.

Abdirashid Abdi Adan was arrested on July 2, 2019, and is currently in police custody being processed to face justice.
