Trouble for Waititu as Wife and Daughter Face Prosecution Over Graft

DPP Noordin Haji has approved the prosecution of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu’s wife, Susan Wangari Ndung’uand daughter, Monica Njeri, over graft.

Waititu himself also faces charges of conflict of interest, dealing with suspect property and abuse of office.

According to a report by The Standard, EACC recommended the governor be charged for being involved in a tender worth Ksh588 million and fraudulent acquisition of Ksh221 million public property.

Also facing charges is Lucas Waihinya, the county chief officer of roads.

Others are five members of the tender committee who evaluated the contract in question.

They are Zacharia Njenga Mbugua, Joyce Ngina Musyoka, Simon Kabocho Kang’ethe, Anselm Gachukia Wanjiku and Samuel Muigai Mugo.

Testimony Enterprises Limited, the company that was awarded the tender for roads, its director Charles Mbuthia Chege and his wife Beth Wangeci are also on EACC’s radar.

Another company, Bieneveu Delta Hotel Limited, where the county head and his wife are directors, and Saika Two Estate Developers Limited, where Waititu and his daughter are directors, are also targeted for prosecution.

On July 11, Waititu had moved to court to try and stop the EACC from conducting any further searches without first informing the suspect of the information they are looking for.

The case was set to be heard on Tuesday but failed to kick off after High Court judge Mumbi Ngugi declined to hear the application, citing personal reasons. He transferred the file to Justice John Onyiego.

Justice Onyiengo asked both parties to pick a hearing date from the registry.
