Raila & Gov Alfred Mutua Map Out 2022 Election Plans

Machakos Governor  Alfred Mutua visited ODM party leader Raila Odinga at his Capitol Hill Square offices on Wednesday, where they spoke on various issues.

Key among their talking points was the 2022 general elections, with Governor Mutua disclosing his presidential ambitions to the former Prime Minister.

"I asked for his advice and shared with him my serious plans to run for the Presidency in 2022," the governor divulged.

Raila reportedly assured the governor that he would be available, in the capacity of a partner as well as a consultant, in order to aid Mutua to popularize his presidential bid across the country.

Both leaders settled on a potential coalition government in which the current 'winner takes all' system would be abolished in favour of a more inclusive setup.

The two endorsed a system which would include an elected president, a Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers.

Teasing on a potential political coalition in the future, Raila and Mutua went on to point out the negatives that emanate from tribal politics.

"Elections have to be transformed to be about ideological and policy contests and not tribal affiliations. The future of this country will depend on how we manage our politics," Mutua tweeted following the meeting.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party chair, went on to express his deeply-rooted admiration for Raila, going on to add that he had always enjoyed a close relationship with the Odinga's.

They then proceeded to enjoy a cup of tea and scones together, going on to discuss other issues namely, corruption, the handshake as well as the state of the nation.

Before parting ways, Raila agreed to Mutua's personal invitation to Machakos on a development tour, at a date that is yet to be decided.
