The Arror and Kimwarer dams saga plot thickened following an official statement by maligned Italian firm CMC di Ravenna, on Tuesday evening.
Initial audit reports claimed that an advance payment of Ksh19 billion had been paid out to the contractor, a statement CMC di Ravenna categorically denied.
“CMC and its representatives did not participate in the negotiations,” the company claimed.
Investigators had alluded that the Italian firm was used as a conduit by Kenyan officials, to inflate the contract prices from Ksh46 billion to Ksh63 billion, thereby, aiding in siphoning of government coffers via dubious non-start projects.
Kenya's Finance Cabinet Secretary, Henry Rotich, was recently arrested over the controversial dam scandal, alongside several other top government officials.
On its part, CMC maintained that all its operations were above book, adding that it would cooperate fully with the authorities, to help conclude the controversial Arror-Kimwarer scandal.
“The company is already working with the Kenyan judicial authority to settle the matter as soon as possible,” CMC disclosed.
CS Rotich had, on Tuesday, pleaded not guilty to charges of corruption, relating to the construction of the two dams.
The embattled CS has since been freed on a Ksh15 million bail, making him one among 26 other co-conspirators facing charges related to the Arror and Kimwarer dams, or lack thereof.
