Commotion in Nairobi CBD as Police Lob Teargas at Demonstrators

Commotion was, on Thursday, morning witnessed at the Nairobi CBD after police officers lobbed teargas canisters at a group that was demonstrating.

One of the journalists covering the demonstrations suffered injuries during the scuffle.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, protesters are seen running as teargas canisters are thrown towards their direction.

The demonstrators had taken to the streets to protest against graft allegations by some rogue officials of Kenya Power.

Led by Al Amin Kimathi and Wanjeri Nderu, the team called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to tame the officials as Capital FM reported.

“Why has the president been this silent about the corruption in the energy sector?” Nderu questioned.

“It is either the Government act or the people of Kenya will,” Kimathi weighed in.

On Wednesday, the Energy Committee at the Senate was briefed by the company that thousands of Kenyans had been duped into purchasing irregularly issued tokens.

KPLC AG, Jared Othieno, stated that disciplinary actions had been taken against the fraudulent individuals in the company.

“The 23 staff involved have already faced disciplinary action and action taken against them as per the company’s procedures and regulations," he stated.
