KRA to Auction Uncollected Brown Sugar at Loitoktok Customs Warehouse

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued a 30-day ultimatum to individuals who have yet to collect their brown sugar stored at the Loitoktok Customs Warehouse.

In a gazette notice dated November 14, the authority's Chief Manager in the Customs and Border Control Department, Michael Watii, said that if the goods are not claimed within the stipulated timeframe, they will be disposed of in 2026.

Watii said that the sugar will be sold through public auction between January 5 and 9, 2026, through its bidding portal.

Interested buyers of the sugar have been encouraged to visit the warehouse on December 29-30, 2025, during office hours to view it.

"Pursuant to the provisions of section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act 2004 as amended (EACCMA 2004), notice is hereby given that unless the under-mentioned brown sugar is entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Loitoktok Customs Warehouse, within thirty (30) days of this notice," the notice read.

"The goods will be deemed as abandoned and will be disposed of in accordance with the provisions of EACCMA 2004, including being sold by public auction on 5th January, 2026, 6th January, 2026, 7th January, 2026, 8th January, 2026, and 9th January, 2026 through an online portal," it added.

The uncollected sugar, which includes varieties such as Brazilian VHP brown sugar, Mama’s Choice Brazilian brown sugar, and Selati Golden Granulated brown sugar, was all destined for Kenya.

The announcement comes exactly a week after the authority issued a similar notice to importers whose properties are still uncollected at the Inland Container Depot and bonded facilities in Nairobi.

According to the authority, goods that remain unclaimed within the next 30 days in these facilities will be disposed of through public auction between January 5 and 9, 2026, through the authority's auctioning portal.

Among Items that are set to be auctioned by the Taxman from the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi are solar water heating systems, handbags, shoes, raw sugar, filter cigarettes, furniture, and vehicles.

The tax man said that Interested individuals can view the goods at various locations, including Chai Logistics Centre, Syokimau Inland Container Depot, Autoport, and Compact, among others.

On the other hand, some of the goods that the authority intends to auction at  Nairobi Bonded facilities include Android Pos Terminal, Cartons Of Lordkingsley Scw, Red wine cases, drinking glasses, vodka, and whisky, among others.

The authority has advised interested individuals to view the goods at their respective bonded facilities and warehouses on December 29-30.
