Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has signaled his intention to join former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's Democratic Change Party (DCP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Havi made the remarks during the burial service of MP James Gakuya's mother in Murang'a County on Saturday, January 3, 2026, where Gachagua and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who also serves as ODM Secretary General, were in attendance.
The seasoned lawyer expressed his loyalty to Gachagua, hinting at a possible political reunion under the DCP banner.
"When we were in the quest of putting the current government in power, MP Gakuya was our chairman, and the former Deputy President, who was our deputy party leader when he says that we go a certain direction, we will follow," Havi stated.
Nelson Havi resigned from UDA Party in November 7, 2024.
In his resignation letter addressed to the UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, and copied to the Registrar of Political Parties Mr. John Cox Lorionokou, Havi did not disclose reasons for his exit.
"I hereby give notice of resignation as a member of the United Democratic Movement (UDA) effective today, in accordance with Section 14 of The Political Parties Act, Cap 7D of the Laws of Kenya," the letter read.
Havi joined the UDA party in 2021 after being welcomed by then–Deputy President William Ruto, but later failed in his bid for the Westlands parliamentary seat during the 2022 general elections.
The lawyer is now setting sights on vying for the Westlands parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections.
Current Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi of ODM is reportedly planning to vie for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat, potentially leaving the constituency open for new contenders.
Havi's potential move to DCP could strengthen Gachagua's political influence in Nairobi ahead of the next polls.
