Fatal Plane Crash That Killed Pilots on Madaraka Day [VIDEO]

Madaraka Day, also known as Independence or Self-Governance Day, is a national holiday celebrated on 1 June of every year in Kenya.

The celebrations graced by the president commemorates the day, in 1963, that Kenya attained independent self-governance after decades as a British colony

1975 celebrations, just 12 years after independence, however, were not all pomp and glory as is expected.

On that day, Kenya Air Force pilots died after their jet crashed during the celebrations.

The day was graced by President Jomo Kenyatta, who was warmly welcomed by Daniel Arap Moi, who was the then Vice President.

As is the norm, various arms of the armed forces and the police forces marched past the president, sharply donned in their ceremonial uniforms.

The forces marched to the then familiar tune played by the police band paying their respects to the Commander in Chief of the Armed forces.

After the guard of honour, the Kenya Air Force planes took to the stage to showcase their flight skills

A report by Levin Odhiambo Obonyo further detailed that "As the jets began their spectacular fly-past, one plane, a Hawker Hunter Jet Fighter, made a dive, but too low, and plunged to the ground in a huge ball of flames."

The plane crashed into the Railway golf course, before ending up on railway yards, causing panic among the audience that was initially lost in the glamour of the pilots' skills.

In the video, an ambulance rushed to the scene of the accident, only to find the plane destroyed and the pilots dead.
