Sonko's Stern Action After Woman Delivered on Floor at City Hospital

Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, on Monday, took stern measures on several staff members at a city hospital, where a woman was recorded giving birth on the floor, in a video which has since gone viral.

The harrowing incident is said to have delivered at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

According to Sonko's chief communications manager, Jacob Teddy Elkanah, the infuriated governor suspended five nurses who were on duty at the time.

The mother is said to have writhed and wailed in pain, as the pangs of labour intensified with the nurses nowhere to help her.

The woman's husband took it upon himself to help his wife, until the delayed arrival of nurses 15 minutes later.

The hospital was recently exposed by KTN news, for its poor maternity services as well as congestion

Due to the lack of space and congestion, women with their newborns are usually forced to stand for prolonged periods of time after giving birth.

The few available beds are used to lay about five or six children as the mothers keep watch over their little angels.

A task force chaired by Hospital board chairman, Joe Aketch, will be expected to give a comprehensive report in week's time.

Elkanah further disclosed that upon being found liable after investigations, the full force of the law would be applied to the nurses, and the hospital at large.
