Governor Calls Out The Standard Over Fake Resignation Story

Kakamega Governor, Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, has come out to fault a section of the media over what he termed to be a fake story.

Oparanya was reacting to an article published by The Standard on August 1, 2019, on its online platform.

The story that caught the county head’s eye was titled ‘Governor Oparanya Plans to Relinquish His position as the Chair of Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB).

Governor Wycliffe Oparanya will relinquish his position as the chairman of LREB to give more attention to county development,” read the first paragraph of the story.

The CoG chairperson responded on Twitter noting that he was not leaving the post anytime soon.

I have noted widespread distortions in a section of the press on the statement I made last week on my leadership at the Lake Region Economic Bloc. Some have said I have quit as chairman. My response is: I'm going nowhere,” the governor posted on his Twitter handle.

The story also claimed that the Kakamega governor had admitted to delegating most of the county duties to his deputy as he was preoccupied with the LREB role.

Oparanya has been the chairman of the regional bloc since 2018.

LREB was launched in 2015, bringing together Kakamega, Bomet, Bungoma, Busia, Homa Bay, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori, Nandi, Nyamira, Siaya, Trans-Nzoia and Vihiga counties.
