President Uhuru Kenyatta left Kenyans struggling to understand what he meant when he disclosed that he had relatives in Jamaica on Tuesday.
"My wife's brother's mother is from Jamaica," Uhuru stated during his speech.
Kenyans began trying to connect the dots to get to the bottom of his revelation.
Many netizens wondered why the president did not refer to his relative as his mother-in-law since the said person was his wife's brother's mother.
A section of Kenyans stated that Uhuru reminded them of family get-togethers, where introductions by distant relatives were hard to follow due to the complex nature of the relationships.
Others used the opportunity to describe their close family members by way of associating with them indirectly.
The few who tried thinking harder than everyone else tried to establish the real relationship between the president and the person in question.
"He meant that his father-in-law was polygamous and one of his wives was from Jamaica. The Jamaican wife, therefore, had a son who's the half-brother to his wife. That is, Uhuru is talking about his stepmother-in-law," Godfrey Nderitu commented.
"His wife and her brother are 'steps', and the brother's mother is from jamaica," suggested Ben Miriti.
"Why not just say my wife's mother or is this brother a step-brother? Maybe an adopted brother," John wondered.
