A US-based athlete was arrested on Tuesday by police in Eldoret for the murder of Gloria Sangutei, a high school teacher who was found murdered and body dumped near a maize plantation.
Kapsaret sub-county commander, Francis Warui, stated that the athlete, who also happens to be the deceased's husband, was arrested while he presented himself at the Kiambaa police post.
“The suspect showed up at the Kiambaa Police Post and said he wanted to confirm if it was his wife who was found murdered at a farm in Ancilla, Outspan," Warui divulged.
However, he noted that the athlete, whose name has not been mentioned, gave contradicting information when he was questioned by the police in Langas as The Standard reported.
“We will interrogate him about his whereabouts concerning the nature of the events that took place. If we find no links to him, he will be released," he added.
On Monday morning, Sangutei's body was found near a maize plantation by residents who were headed to work.
Police found a rope that was suspected to have been used to strangle the Ngeria Girls Secondary School teacher about 20 km from Eldoret town.
A neighbour, Valentine Kibor, who spoke to the publication, stated that she was surprised to learn of the teacher's death.
“I was shocked that the body the people were viewing after it was brought by the police was that of my friend Gloria. I had talked to her on Sunday at around 5.30pm when she requested that I go with her to Kenhood Apartments,” Ms Kibor divulged.
