Rotich Hires Ex-DPP to Beat Haji

Former Treasury CS, Henry Rotich, has tapped into the skills of former Director of Public Prosecutions, Phillip Murgor, to beat the current officeholder, Noordin Haji.

When the case against Rotich and other suspects resumed on Thursday, Murgor appeared in court as the newest addition to the defence team.

He will be joining the likes of Senate Majority Leader, Kipchumba Murkomen, and Deputy President William Ruto's ICC lawyer, Katwa Kigen.

Murgor told the court that he had been briefed about the case on Wednesday, and was struggling to catch up.

He complained that the prosecution had submitted evidence to the defence team in soft copy and insisted that they are handed the physical versions of the documents.

The prosecution, on its part, has lined up 140 witnesses in a bid to bring Rotich and other suspects to book, over the Kimwarer and Arror dams scandal.

Haji is banking on the expertise of special prosecutor Taib Ali Taib to nail the corruption suspects.

Murgor had applied to join the DPP's team of special prosecutors in 2018 but later resigned.

He complained that since his appointment, he had not been assigned any work.

“Following the formal gazetting of my appointment on January 16, 2019, I have not been assigned any case at all," Murgor had told Nation

He also regretted that he and other special prosecutors were yet to be accorded adequate security.

“In the circumstances, the professional and financial opportunity cost has become unaffordable to me as a legal practitioner,” the ex-DPP stated.
