The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has flagged as fake a news item purporting that it is currently conducting a mass recruitment drive.

In an accompanying warning, KNEC informed Kenyans of the prevalence of fake recruitment agents plaguing the industry and urged them to do their due diligence while applying for jobs.

The council affirmed that it only advertised its vacancies on its official website or on the government publication, MyGov, published every Tuesday.

"Beware of agents of fake news and misinformation. Do not be misled," the council warned in a notice.

"All available vacancies are always declared through our website and the MyGov publication."

The last time KNEC announced vacancies was on June 10, when it was looking for assessors of the just-completed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) oral and practical tests.

It had invited secondary school teachers and college tutors to apply for the opportunities in eight subjects over a 50-day application window.

The selected professionals would then be trained on the job during the assessment of the 2025 KCSE examination paper.

They would be hired to assess power mechanics, electricity, aviation technology, French oral, German oral, Arabic oral, Kenyan Sign Language, Signing Practical, and Music practical.

Seemingly, the latest banner announced the recruitment five months later, leading KNEC to flag it as fake.

Just as KNEC warned, it is advisable to conduct your due diligence when applying for any jobs, whether for public or private firms.

Confirming the job openings on the company's official website is the most credible way to ensure that the jobs advertised are legitimate. Confirming the email address and other contacts listed on the job ad is another way to ensure that you are applying to a legitimate job.
