EXCLUSIVE: Cliff Ombeta's Swift Action After Reports of Deregistration

Criminal lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, who was accused of lacking a valid license to practice law, on Thursday, swiftly responded to the allegations.

In an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Ombeta unveiled the action he would take, in response to the defamatory statement.

According to the lawyer, who compared himself to maize growing by the roadside that is the envy of every passerby, affirmed that he was being attacked for no particular reason.

"I'm being attacked for no reason, I have my certificate of practice, all my documents are valid," he affirmed.

He also disclosed that the allegations were personal and aimed at removing him from Willy Kimani's, case in which he is the lawyer.

He further stated that his certificates and other official documents were valid, and had even been confirmed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) chairman.

"LSK chairman has confirmed that my certificate is valid. He has even seen my 2019 certificate," he highlighted.

As a result, Ombetsa vowed to immediately sue LSK lawyer Stephen Ongaro, who earlier on stated that Ombeta was not qualified to stand before the court.

"I am going to sue the lawyer straight away, I'm on my way from Malindi and I will do so immediately I arrive in Nairobi," he assured.

Ombetsa unveiled that he was also planning to hold a press conference, as a final option, after suing Ongaro.

LSK president, Allen Gichuhi, earlier in the day also rubbished claims that Cliff Ombeta is not licensed to practice as a lawyer. He stated that lawyer Ongaro had misguided the court.

About two weeks ago, a high court judge ordered Ombeta to get another lawyer to represent the three accused persons in Willy Kimani's murder case.

This is after he failed to appear in court severally for the mention of the murder trial.

“I am in the house. I cannot reveal the illness I am suffering from but I will tell you that I was treated at Nairobi Hospital. They could not contain what I was suffering from, and thus, referred me to a consultant operating at Doctors Plaza,” he had previously told Kenyans.co.ke.
