Major Highway Closed After Fuel Tanker Leakage

A section of the Nakuru-Naivasha highway was closed on Monday, after a fuel tanker developed a leakage.

Latest reports state that normal transport has resumed on the Nakuru-Naivasha highway after oil spillage near Stem Hotel in Nakuru was cleared.

The incident reportedly occurred near Stem Hotel in Nakuru, the Standard reported, with fuel spilling onto the road.

Nakuru East County Police Commander, Ellena Kabukuru, confirmed the incident, Citizen Digital reported.

The police boss announced that an alternative link had been established for commuters along the highway.

Heavy police presence was reported in the area, with Kabukuru confirming that she had ordered their deployment in order to control the dangerous accident scene.

The CPC also issued a stern warning to all local residents to steer clear of the scene in order to avoid the tragic scenes witnessed in Tanzania, where over 70 people died while siphoning fuel from a tanker that was involved in an accident.

"Officers are on the ground to avoid incidences of locals siphoning petrol from the tanker," Kabukuru disclosed.

Latest reports state that traffic has been diverted to Old Nairobi road via Mbaruk, and Mwariki estates.
