Terror as KDF Soldiers Invade City Estate & Clobber Police Officers

Soldiers from the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) based in Mombasa County, subjected officers and residents of Likoni to a 4-hour torturous ordeal.

According to reports, the Tuesday nightmare was a retaliatory attack, following the gruesome murder of a soldier, Corporal David Mwangi Githinji, whose charred body was found in an abandoned house in the area.

His unconsolable colleagues thus decided to take justice into their own hands, rampaging through the area while battering anyone in sight.

Three police officers and a Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) ranger found themselves in the soldier's crosshairs, and they weren't spared from the brutal assault either.

Hassan Musa Bandari, one of the Administration Police, lost two upper front teeth, after a rifle butt was rammed into his mouth, while the KWS ranger was pummelled on his back and head with heavy metal rods.

Witnesses claimed that the soldiers stormed the area at around 8 pm in three military trucks, then split into groups of eight, going on to clobber anyone they got their hands on.

Mombasa County Commissioner, Evans Achoki, affirmed the incident to the Standard, adding that a meeting had been convened to discuss the matter.

One of the victims claimed to have been hammered by a rifle butt all over her body, until she lost consciousness.

"When I told them I was not aware of the killings of the soldier, they became angry telling me that I was rude. One hit me on my breast," Monica Achieng narrated to the Standard.

The residents went on to reveal that they had been living under an unofficial curfew ever since.

All the injured residents were directed to report to Inuka Police Station where their statements would be taken, with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations expected to commence formal investigations into the incident.
