Murkomen Pens Emotional Message to Aunt After Dying of Cancer

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator, Kipchumba Murkomen, on Friday, penned an emotional message to his aunt, Salina Komen Arusei, after she succumbed to cervical cancer.

On his Facebook page, the senator expressed how grateful he was for the time he had shared with his aunt.

"The beautiful lady, our dear Aunt Salina, has now left us after succumbing to cervical cancer. I can’t imagine the pain and sense of loss that my cousins feel. We are all devastated," he wrote.

The senator gave a brief history of his aunt, whom he had first met in 2017. This is after their uncle disappeared from their lives in 1972 and got remarried.

"I only got to know my uncle two years before his demise. He left his birthplace in 1972, way before I was born. My Mum used to pray for him unceasingly and she believed in her heart that they would meet again," he divulged.

The senator lauded his late aunt for taking great care of her children even after the death of his uncle.

"When things were tough, it’s my aunt who took my cousins to her home in Kapchorwa, Uganda and took very good care of them," he divulged.

"We are however glad that God gave us the chance to meet my uncle and my aunt albeit for a short while," he concluded.

In July, the country lost a couple of leaders to cancer among them; the late Bomet Governor Joyce Laboso, Kibra MP Ken Okoth and Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore.
