City Lawyer Condemns Citizen TV for Publicising Kaitany, Linturi Divorce

City Lawyer Nelson Havi has come out to condemn the media over the attention it has put on the messy divorce between Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and his estranged wife Maryanne Kitany.

Havi took to social media to question the media over the quality of news that they were feeding the population.

He further noted that the media was never public with information when the two met and married but are so quick to publish stories on the messy divorce.

Media Houses: Citizen, KTN, NMG and The Star are out of order. They didn’t inform us when Maryanne Kitany and Mithika Linturi met, married and consummated their marriage. Why must they publish their divorce proceedings? Don’t we have matters of public interest to be informed on?” The outspoken lawyer tweeted.

The lawyer was reacting after Citizen TV aired the divorce proceedings from the Milimani law courts in Nairobi on Wednesday.

"Nelson Mandela divorced Winnie when he was president, court proceedings were not televised, our media has a very low bar," he added.

Linturi and his estranged wife have been embroiled in a messy divorce case through the corridors of different courts in Kenya.

The initial divorce petition was filed by Kitany at the Meru Law courts but later requested for the case to be transferred to Nairobi.

Less than two months ago, Kitany through her lawyer, Danstan Omari, asked the court to order the police to investigate the legislator for alleged bigamy (marrying someone while already married to someone else) as well as forgery.

Kitany also disclosed that Linturi produced legal divorce documents to the effect that he was not a married man, before their union.

However, Linturi disclosed to the court that he was married to only one wife (Mercy Kaimenyi) and even produced a marriage certificate to prove his claims.
