The MP was allegedly accompanying the census officials, as they headed to carry out a pre-listing exercise.

K24 reported that the unidentified gunmen burnt down one of the vehicles belonging to local staff, and destroyed another belonging to Malkagufu ward representative.

The ambush occurred barely a day since Abdsalan joined the Wajir West MP Ahmed Kolosh, to push the national government to be more active in creating job opportunities for North Eastern youths.

Speaking in Wajir, on Wednesday, during a meeting with a seven-member youth group formed by Equal Access International to counter al Shabaab in the region using social media.

The two members of the National Assembly emphasised the importance of youth empowerment, noting that unemployment among young people increases the crime rate while also risking young people to engage in other illegal activities.

“I’m not in any way justifying their actions which are not good, but there is nothing as bad as a having an idle educated youth,” Abdisalan remarked during the open dialogue meeting.

He went on to reveal that unemployed youth were easily convinced to join criminal groupings, not because he or she likes it but because they wanted to make ends meet.

Latest reports revealed that no one was injured during the attack, as security officers, upon hearing distant gunshots, cleared the area swiftly.
