Govt Agency Swings to Action After Sick Giraffe Photo Goes Viral Worldwide

A sickly giraffe, whose photo went viral earlier in August has been tracked down by Kenya Wildlife Services officials.

The officials divulged that the giraffe was diagnosed with a bone tumour, adding that it had received medical care.

"While it is in able condition to move, feed and take water, excising the tumour proved difficult due to the extent of the growth that would cause potentially serious complications," KWS wrote on their social media pages.

One of the veterinary doctors, Titus Kaitho, assured well wishers that the team had administered a palliative treatment of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs.

On their social media handles, a number of people commended the team for the work that they were doing.

"So glad to see how you take care of this special animal. Wish you guys all the best with the treatment," Theo stated.

"Good work. I always love the swift response of the doctors like at one point in Tsavo East," Jake weighed in.

A twitter user, Odeo Sirari, shared the photo of the Rothschild’s giraffe that was taken at Lake Nakuru National Park, emanating feelings of concern from various people on Wednesday.

“This giraffe at the lake Nakuru National Park needs treatment. It’s a Rothschild’s giraffe, one of the most endangered species in the world,” he tweeted.
