Cheeky Kenyans Devise 3 Tricks to Beat Matiang'i's Bar Directive

Alcohol lovers and those who go out on weekends to have a good time with friends are not in good terms with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi, after he ordered the closure of entertainment spots.

The CS directed that all bars and social joints be closed from 5pm on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25, to facilitate the success of the national census.

In Busia, alcohol lovers stated that they would cross into neighbouring Uganda, to enjoy alcoholic drinks on the material day. They added that the directive would not affect them in any way.

"We are not stressed. The only people who will bear the brunt of that order are the Kenyans living far away from the Kenya-Uganda border,” one of the Busia residents told K24 Digital.

On Twitter, netizens posted all sorts of memes, making fun of the whole situation and highlighting some of the ways they would circumvent the order.

"Matiangi ordered the closing of all bars by 5pm during the #Censuskenya2019 night. Also Kenyans on the census night by 7pm," Innocent wrote as he posted the photo below.

"CS Matiang'i did not specify whether we should be inside or outside the bars while they close," Michael Mutunga divulged.

Others noted that they would buy alcoholic drinks in wholesale and store them in their homes as the photo below tried to portray.

On Thursday, the tough-talking CS pointed out that drinking hours on weekends start at 2pm, therefore, Kenyans wishing to indulge in alcohol should make use of that period until 5pm.

"At a personal level, I would not encourage you to drink, but at an official level, I'm telling you that you can go have your drink between 2pm and 5pm. And more experienced people tell me that if you're not satisfied with beer for three whole hours, then there is a problem with you," he jokingly stated.
