Magistrate Directs Waititu's Lawyers to WhatsApp Group

An Anti-Corruption chief magistrate, on Monday, hilarious advised lawyers in Governor Ferdinand Waititu case on a better method of dealing issues pertaining the suit.

Chief Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi recommended that the lawyers form a WhatsApp group to discuss issues related to the case before the matter comes up for pre-trial.

This was during the mention of a case where Waititu and his wife Susan Ndung'u among other county officials were charged with Ksh558 million fraud.

After Monday’s mention, the prosecution claimed that it has supplied the defense with all witness statements although some of the suspects stated that they were yet to be supplied with the said documents, K24 reports.

In other reports, nine Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) sought to be enjoined as interested parties in the case against the governor.

However, the defense team objected to the application saying that the MCA’s have no locus standi

“Let them make a substantive application, let’s not turn this into a political case,” the defense argued.

Mugambi thus directed the MCAs to file a formal application and their intention to participate in the case.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) also took to Twitter and stated that they are ready for Waititu's trial.

"The prosecution is ready for the trial of Governor Ferdinand Waititu and 12 others charged with irregular award of Ksh588 million roads tender in Kiambu County. The prosecution has lined up 67 witnesses," posted ODPP.

The court has fixed the pre-trial for September 27.
