Former Kiambu Governor, William Kabogo, alleged that some MPs who accompany Deputy President William Ruto for fundraisers are paid.
He was speaking during an August 27, 2019, interview with Kameme TV’s Njogu was Njoroge, who put him on the spot to explain his comments at the late John De Mathew’s funeral service held on August 24.
"Let's reduce politics on the 2022 elections so that our country can develop, and the people who can stop these politics are only two people and we have one of them in our presence today.
"However, I asked the other one to attend the ceremony but he did not make it. We love our deputy president but let us stop early campaigns," Kabogo had stated.
While the DP responded that he wasn’t doing campaigns, Kabogo, on Kameme TV, challenged Ruto to channel his contributions to development projects instead of splashing money at church fundraisers.
He also raised a concern about the legislators who followed the country’s second in command, explaining that they should take care of their constituents needs first, before traversing the nation.
"For example, what would an MP from Thika be doing in Turkana and other places every weekend, following someone? When will he ever know what’s going on in his constituency?” wondered the former Kiambu boss.
"The Ksh 50,000 that they contribute, I am telling you, it is not their money. It is handed to them to give at the fundraisers. I have been there and seen it myself. I also have money but…” he spoke.
"Why do they always contribute the same amount?" he question.
He urged the legislators that instead of making pronouncements all over the country, they should engage the people who elected them in the same discussions, to hear their views.
