Statehouse Comptroller Kinuthia Mbugua is on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission's (EACC) radar over irregularities that occurred during his time at the helm of the Nakuru County Government.
Among the issues that have made the anti-corruption body focus on Mbugua who is also President Uhuru Kenyatta secretary include a questionable Ksh200 million loan.
The Daily Nation reported that the loan in question cost the taxpayer another Ksh40 million in interests and penalties.
They further revealed that EACC was following up on irregularities that took place in Nakuru between 2013 and 2017.
Senior county officials during the period are also under scrutiny from the anti-graft body over impropriety during his regime.
Earlier in August, an oversight senate committee recommended the investigation of the Ksh200 million loan that was borrowed in 2013.
This matter came to light after the current governor, Lee Kinyanjui, appeared before Senate's County Public Accounts and Investments Committee to respond to 2017-18 audit queries.
Kinyanjui was unable to satisfactorily explain the overdraft taken by Kinuthia in 2013 to pay county workers.
The Senate committee also learned that the County Government of Nakuru had been incurring at least Ksh760,000 in interest and penalties every month since 2013.
