Police Officer Sprays Bullets on Matatu With Passengers

A senior police officer opened fire on a moving matatu on Monday evening, at a roadblock in Kangaru Village in Embu County, seriously injuring the driver.

Reports by Daily Nation indicated that the officer waved at the driver to halt the vehicle for inspection, but he defied the order.

It is at that point that one of the senior officers shot at the public service vehicle.

Afterwards, the officers pulled out the driver from the vehicle and rushed him to the Embu Referral Hospital for treatment.

It is alleged that the officers were looking for criminals, prompting them to act in the way that they did.

"The officers wanted to check whether there were criminals among the passengers but the driver failed to stop, forcing the law enforcers to act by shooting him," Mary Kageni, a witness, stated.

County Police Commander, Daniel Rukunga, confirmed the incident, citing that investigations were underway.

"I'm heading to the scene and I will give a statement after establishing what really transpired," Rukunga narrated.
