Waititu's Deputy Uncovers More Millions Stolen in Kiambu

Kiambu Deputy Governor, James Nyoro, has responded after a voter, Bernard Chege Mburu, moved to court to challenge his move to reshuffle County Executive Committee members (CECs).

Speaking from Kiambu headquarters, where he was issuing cheques to farmers, the deputy governor stated that he had reshuffled his cabinet due to corruption witnessed in the county.

Nyoro noted that the county's revenue had been squandered, adding that various suppliers had not been paid.

"And since I got into office, I have discovered a lot that Kiambu residents need to know. These people who are going to court took Ksh150 million and we do not know where they took the money," the deputy governor disclosed.

He further alleged that funds issued to county hospitals could not be accounted for, stating that the matter was to blame for the congestion of patients in hospitals.

"From a conditional grant of Ksh538 million issued by the government, only Ksh105 million was taken to Kiambu and Thika hospitals. Gatundu has not received even a single coin. Ksh433 million cannot be accounted for," Nyoro remarked.

The deputy governor stated that the county received Ksh3 million from the World Bank, noting that the money was meant for projects like Wangige Hospital.

Nyoro added that he had fears that the bank would blacklist Kiambu County if the money was not refunded.

On September 11, 2019, Nyoro was sued by a voter who challenged his move to reshuffle County Executive Committee Members (CECs).

Mburu, the plaintiff, stated that the move by the deputy governor was not acceptable in law.

“The illegal acts of the deputy governor will create a stalemate that will gravely affect service delivery to the people of Kiambu especially as one of the dockets affected is Finance,” the court papers read.
