Hotelier Cornered After Parking Lot Argument Ends in Gunshots

A man accused of shooting his colleague over parking space is set to spend more time in remand, Citizen Digital reported on Tuesday, September 24.

Daniel Yona Jaoko is said to have shot and killed Peter Otieno Ogallo due to conflict over a parking space at Polyview Estate, Kisumu on August 17, 2019.

The late Ogallo worked as a manager at Modern Coast Bus service in Kisumu.

Jaoko, a manager at Ray-Green Hotel Nyamasaria, appeared before High Court Judge Fred Ochieng' on Monday, September 23, where he pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

His bail hearing did not go as planned as the court decided that he would remain in remand until a report from a probation officer was provided within a week's time.

Jaoko's pre-bail report would then determine whether he would get bail according to Justice Ochieng'.

However, the prosecution team led by Peter Muia opposed the bail hearing citing security concerns for the accused. This was due to there being threats from residents to lynch Jaoko.

The team also claimed that witnesses would be intimidated as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was looking into information that the accused had another firearm.

Justice Ochieng' refuted the claims noting that it was the government's responsibility to sort out security for its' citizens.

He directed that the case be heard on October 2, 2019.

Ogallo was reportedly shot by Jaoko after an argument ensued when the latter's car was blocked at the Estate's parking. Otino is said to have asked Jaoko to move his car and the confrontation ended with gunshots.

Ogallo succumbed to the injuries while receiving treatment at Avenue Hospital.
